• 1135.20-1140.50 UT. Indeed a TV broadcast from Sal-5. They spoke about an experiment (not specified). Baykal-2, Zholobov does the communications. The crew addresses a message to the participants of the 21^st Olympic Games. (Nice story, but the normal bla-bla propaganda for peace etc.)

• 1002.02-1006.07 UT . At 1240 (0940UT) command VO-1 given. Understood. Volynov asks for instructions. About the Stroka, the teletypeprinter. Will check parameters when Stroka is ready.

• 1133.30-1138.25 UT: I gathered the litterature and enter the BO (Bytovoy Otsek - Life compartment of Soyuz) now. I leave the button activated -pressed in-. Got information about formular 110. About ‘leaving the station’ (pokidaniye) , test not yet terminated, will last for about 40 minutes. I consumed all my MT-1. Zarya: Not necessary. Volynov: Not necessary? (Volynov stated that they have to do that test and that they will report results). Agreed. Yes, we will execute the test. I can write down form 14. How on earth is it about Baykal-2, is the recording connected? Zarya: Unclear. (About Baykal-2) V: understood. How do I switch on Zeta? Zarya: Not needed. V: How is the recording proceeding? If they do not yet speak we can check form 14. Zarya: unclear about Baykal-2. Volynov expects Zarya’s command for execution of experiment.
  Form 14 ready. Zarya: unclear reads out data. (6 figure groups plus ‘ugli posadki’, here about 112 degrees).

• 1131.20-1135.55 UT : Volynov: Baykal-2 will perform the task. Zholobov has some questions. Zholobov asks times for some activities, i.e. telemetry, time for work according to form 100 and somewhat earlier about form 124 to enable him to check the data.
  Meanwhile the TV transmission is ready and Zarya receives images. Interview by someone on earth. (Questions about the health a.s.o. of the crew -as always excellent, feeling like home, no problems with microgravity). About the experiment to be executed today, Kristall, crystall growth. Explains that all previous cosmonauts and astronauts already worked on these experiments and shows the installation on board Sal-5.

• 1304.20-1308.40 UT : Zholobov with Zarya. He reports that Volynov is on the spot where he has to be and Zholobov has switched on Svet (or; the lights) for him. Zarya: Question about plug. Zholobov reports that these were 9^th and 10^th plugs. All goes well. Crew complaining about temperature, it is very cold 3 or 4 degrees C. (Not clear which experiment. Reporting figures, 10, 15, 20, 30 etc. More not needed.)

20 July 1976

• 0959.00-1000.20 UT: (short transmission, no speech)

• 1127.37-1132.52 UT: Volynov reports that Zholobov is working according to form 111, possibly ready in 1 minute. Transmitting TV images. Zarya relays command coming from Zarya-25. Then Zarya-25 himself comes on the line. Zarya-25 says that he is pleased to see the crew.

Volynov reports that Zholobov is going to the Stroka, the RTTY printer, on which they get telegrams. After a while one of the crew members gives a kind of report with some old stories about pilots and cosmonauts flying away from the aerodrome Chkalovo.

• 0952.09-0957.58 UT : Understood. That means that we during this session do not have anything to speak about (or: no TV report). Let me know until which time we have TV? 6 or 7? Understood. Stroka is active. V: I am ready. Volynov/Zholobov talk with Sergey at Zarya. Speaks to the TV-viewers and in particular to their Polish friends for on 22 July 1976 the Polish nation celebrates the rebirth of Poland: congratulations.

Then Volynov tells about themselves. Assisted by Zholobov about the fact that all is going well and that they do all in accordance with the program. Also about the experiments. We did already a lot, but still have more to do and are willing to show the experiments when the TV-viewers will visit them again. Enthusiastic report about the observations and imaging of silver clouds and about the good results of technological and scientific experiments.

• 1259.35-1303.07 UT :Zarya - Baykal-2. Zholobov: Just a second. Ready for the 14^th form. Zarya reads out the times for the Ugli Posadki. Then Volynov: I want to report that at 1145 (0845UT) did we perform the task at KR. The system works well, no transparants are indicating that something is wrong. We prepared the TV report.

• 0950.30-0952.11 UT: Something accomplished (possibly electrical connections, red on red and brown on brown.

• 1127.13-1128.20 UT: First I can report about KTF, that what you asked for. When I was standing on the treadmill I worked on KTF 1205-1230 and I switched on the KTF of the treadmill now and then from 1202-1208, has been switched of at 20. About 103^rd? We already have given that. Volynov: Zholobov is checking this out, he listens at the receiver. Zarya: Question about 23st form. Zholobov about 23st form. We gave another form, that is a form about the B. Zholobov of the Soyuz. and this form, about a check is the B.Zr.R. of the station. Will have a look and report in 23 seconds.

• 0435.50-0440 UT: Volynov calls Zarya. Zarya gives instructions (unclear). Volynov: understood. About camera. Zarya: More instructions about 138. Then TV report: Dear TV viewers, we speak to you from station Salyut-5, to tell you today about the instruments which have been installed here, the optic visor (sight). With this instrument Baykal-2 is now looking and he observes to the surface of the earth, we observe the surface of our blue planet. (etc. etc., long interesting story)

5 August 1976

• 0300.00-0304.23 UT: Volynov: Excellent, I will enter the BO (life compartment of Soyuz) for the Telemetry. -Long interlude- Program 2 is ready, I switch on PEK (unclear). PEK switched on. Stroka is working. (Printer of RTTY installation) The text is running. That sound is the working Polinovovskiy (phonetic) compressor. Yes. Volynov TV-scan 1. We do that immediately. We already changed the shoe (electrical connection), 1 in 5, you understood us well.
• 0432.40-0437.40 UT: Volynov: Stroka is working, printing the form 14. 565^th 700 M 10.1 PK MSP 8^th inert 9^th 092327 12^th -918 13^th 92656 18^th 105300 20^th 122306. Volynov: I report in the check 0658 0 07 08 we discovered AO 3 does not burn, from here it is clear that the commands do not come through, at the dynamics all commands come through normally. So this means that all is in vain. The rest is ready and normal. 581 697 887 Volynov: We must check form 114 Volynov: Give me the times please. So that is the 700^th orbit? • 0606.20-0610.15 UT: Volynov: Our mood is very good, our condition is good. All according to plan, we are working and execute the program. Everything is proceeding well. Volynov: The most warm impression which I remember about these days of flight, that is of course the transfer into the station after the docking. That is an unforgettable event and, forgive me, the most emotional one. I have been waiting for that moment for a very long time and when I entered the station, every moment, every minute , every second and every step was what I was waiting for so long, that I remember everything and until now I still see this for me. Zarya: unclear. Volynov: What can I say, in principle we should begin there, in the first place: not far from you is our famous Oryol (German Titov). Zarya: Probably a confirmation. Volynov: It is so that tomorrow it will be the 15^th anniversary of his flight, tomorrow it will be the 6^th of August and that is why I thought that it is no coincidence that German will be there too. That is why we out the bottom of our hearths congratulate German with the anniversary of his flight and if we look back a little bit in the past , 15 years ago, then we can say that that flight in the Vostok-2, executed by you 25 hours you have been in orbit 703.000 KM behind the wall of the planet earth that is very much, but in principle 15 years is not very much and now is in orbit our station Salyut-5. This is a much more complicated machine than the Vostok, you will remember .... Zarya: of course. Volynov: And now we have an enormous house, .... a scientific laboratory in orbit. A space station.

Volynov: Zarya-25 how do you read, over. Zarya: (lady, Tamara) answers. Volynov: Tamara, greetings, Zholobov hello Tamara, Zholobov: We are ready to greet you and we invite you to come and visit us. Inn our space house, have a look at us via the porthole. Zarya: unclear. Volynov and Zholobov. with enthusiasm to Tamara. Friendly conversation. Volynov: Tamara, we invite everybody who came there in the studio to come and visit us, then they will see us via the porthole, the so called blue screen. Volynov: I just look through the porthole where we are flying. A few minutes ago we passed Prague, we flew over Warsaw, the weather is in our view not bad, no clouds. And then our orbit is going via Kiev, Kharkov, the distance between Kiev and Kharkov we fly in just 1 minute. Zarya: Tamara, long unclear. Thanking the crew. TV-report: Dear TV-viewers we invite to be our guests. Baykal-2, Vitaliy will tell you about the technological experiment, which is named Reaktsiya. Zholobov: Good morning dear TV-viewers. Today we execute one of the series technological experiments, the so called experiment in Reaktsiya. This is a continuation of the experiments executed by the crew of the Soyuz-6, Georgiy Shonin and Valeriy Kubasov, for the welding of materials in space. Yes, that was in 1969, and today this work will be continued and today we executed an experiment of that kind. What to say, so the conditions of welding obviously you immediately think about the images of burning, hot, sparks, protection masks, protection filters (Volynov enjoys the story of Zholobov. by laughing now and then) but at us this a little bit different, for the analogue experiments a special installation has been constructed, which includes some reactors, in which the samples, which have to undergo the welding are enclosed in these packets, in such a packet, with help of impulses is generated an ignition impulse of this packet and with the help of an extra thermal reaction in which the warmth is divided the solder is melting and fusing. there are 2 materials, in this case, in this experiment, the solder is used, utilised, of 2 difficult combinations, here are to little pipes and as you can see on your screens (Volynov interrupts: We can show this..) Zholobov: Do you see it, is it good visible? So 2 little pipes and ...(Volynov. The experiment proceeded well) Zholobov. In the beginning we were a little bit anxious about the experiment, for welding is welding and .. (Volynov. interrupts, unclear) warm (Zholobov. laughs) and that is why we were a little bit upset, but now all is normal, the results are, as you can see yourself, excellent, all pipes are united in an excellent .... the quality can be only determined by experts when we bring back this sample. They do that by the help of laboratory expertise .........Loss of Signal

This was the last voice contact with Salyut-5 from Sollentuna. the passes over Europe drifted into the nighhttime when the crew was asleep.
The crew landed at 1832.17 UT on 24 August 1976.
